leadership development weekends

by Hercules Opperman & Marionette van Deventer (Shofar Institute)

As we focus on the harvest campaign as a movement, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the enormous task of praying for more labourers to bring in the harvest and make disciples that can portray the glory of God through Christ-like character.

“The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38 (NKJV)

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJV)

As a family of churches we take this command seriously, but we’re also very aware of the fact that the only way to reach the nations effectively is through well-equipped leaders. And that’s why we’re partnering with our local congregations to introduce leadership development weekends, with the aim of equipping leaders with the skills needed to excel in ministry, not only in a public context but also in their private lives.

Leaders in fulltime ministry can become isolated and unable to draw from the support of the body of Christ in times of need. We aim to cultivate resilient leaders with staying power who can:

• discern God’s call and remain true to it
• balance family life with ministry responsibility
• be transparent and accountable
• flourish under pressure
• maintain order in their inner lives
• lead with prophetic insight

These weekends will form an integral part of equipping our leaders, with members of our apostolic leadership team presenting the majority of the sessions. The course will take the form of four weekends presented over two years (with two per year) throughout our regions in South Africa, the United Kingdom, Namibia and Malawi.
